Communication
At Ysgol Heol Goffa we use a total communication approach to support communication development. Each pupil will have a communication target that they will be working on.
We have weekly visits from a Speech and Language therapist and have our own communication support lead who is on site every day.
If you have any questions or would like support in developing your child's communication, please contact your class teacher or the school.
What is a total communication approach?
A total communication approach uses pictures, signs, body language, gesture and objects. The approach aims to provide a supportive environment where all methods of communication are valued and used. In Ysgol Heol Goffa we use widget symbols and signalong as part of our total communication approach. We adapt how we speak to suit each individual pupil. Following Blank Levels of Questioning help us to do this.
What are Blank Levels of Questioning?
The Blank levels are a framework to help children and young people understand and answer questions. There are four categories which start with simple questions like "what is this?" become more complex such as "why did that happen?".
